Design and Analysis of a While-Drilling Energy-Harvesting Device Based on Piezoelectric Effect

A while-drilling energy harvesting device is designed in this paper to recovery along with the longitudinal vibration of drill pipes, aiming serve as a continuous power supply for downhole instruments during drilling procedure. Radial size determined through engineering field experience and geological survey reports. piezoelectric coupling model based on selected material was established via COMSOL Multiphysics numerical simulation. The forced analyzed determine patch length range their best installation positions. Modal analysis frequency response research indicate that natural cantilever beam increased monotonously increase patch’ thickness before reaching an inflection point. Moreover, simulation results imply peak voltage harvested varied regional manner patches. When patches 1.2–1.4 mm, gained harvest performance 15–40 V. Works provide theoretical support design reference application field.
